New York nursing CE requirements
For registered nurse license renewal, read off NYSED Office of the Professions rather than an aggregator. Checked 2026-10-15.
No general hour requirement
This board sets no blanket number of continuing education hours. That is not the same as nothing to do: anything listed below is still mandatory, and the board can still ask you to show competence another way.
Required, with no hour figure set
Infection Control
no hour figure set · every 4 years
No minimum hours set in law or regulation; the Department anticipates 2 to 4 hours. Certificate kept at least 4 years. Note the 4 year frequency does not match the 3 year registration period.
Required, and the board does not say whether it counts
Child Abuse Identification
2 hours · one-time
before the RN license is issued
Exemption available. Does not apply to LPNs.
Do BLS and ACLS cards count?
The board does not say
One contact hour is
50 minutes
Keep your certificates for
4 years
- Infection Control runs on its own 4 year clock while the licence renews every 3 years, so the two drift apart. Track it separately rather than assuming it lines up with your renewal.
- The board requires 2 hours of Child Abuse Identification but does not say whether it counts inside the total above. Assume it does not until you have confirmed it, so you are not short.
- No blanket hour requirement here, which is not the same as no requirement. Anything listed above is still mandatory.
No general continuing education contact hour requirement. Registration is 3 years. The RN FAQ page itself states it was last updated 15 August 2019.
Read from that page on 2026-10-15. Boards change their rules and their websites without announcing either, so treat this as a convenience and the board as the authority.

Hold a licence in more than one state?
The compliance map takes the CE you have already done and shows you where it would hold up across all 51 jurisdictions at once, including the ones that do not work the way anybody assumes. Three questions, no account. Both tools are available in English, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese.
